Mark
Garcia Farms is a family farming operation managed by Mark Garcia, youngest
son of Casimiro Garcia. He handles the day to day operation of the
various activities that encompass the multifaceted operation that is
separated by 15 miles. The eight farms
and ranch are always in various stages of
production from rotating crops and crop selection to harvesting, irrigating
and the the ever present equipment maintenance and repair. The act of
preparing for a new season of production requires checking all equipment
which includes the very sophisticated laser leveling machinery, the computer
operated Krone Baler. Checking the GPS on equipment and various other
computers that are required to operate some of the machinery. Ordering
seed, fertilizers, fuel, repair parts and scheduling operators is in itself
a full time operation but handled on a routine basis. Mark
handles all these areas as well as tending to family matters.
Mark Garcia a horse trainer of local renown has a
reputation as a horse whisperer.
His methods have tamed wild Mustangs in a hour or less and calmed them in a
matter of minutes. One of these animals was brought in from the wilds
of Wyoming and went through the training regime with Mark. His methods
produced an an animal that was rideable by the owner and was not harmed in
anyway. He can generally train a run of the mill horse in a less than
thirty minutes to enter a horse trailer of it's own accord which is a
testament to Marks' skill. He is the true "Horse Whisperer".
A
portion of the ranch in Casa Colorado has been cleared of brush and trees over a
period of years in preparation for planting. After most brush was
cleared it was used to graze cattle on natural vegetation. The
cleared brush was stacked into huge piles over the entire area. When
the time was right the cattle were moved and a day was picked for a
massive burn. A Firebreak was carved around the ranch as fires were
started on the South end. This was supposed to be a controlled burn
but a dead tree next to the road caught fire and couldn't be put out
with the spray rig (AKA, Red Fire Truck). Mark called the fire
department to help put it out and five trucks showed up. The piles
are the result of a couple years of clearing on several hundred
acres. After the ranch leveling took place over much of the summer
the area was planted in Tritacalia and Rye. The first irrigation was
a complete success.
